Discharged, But Please Keep Praying

Greg was discharged from the hospital today and we got back to the hotel around 4pm.  Although we are thrilled to be out of the hospital, Greg still has lots of issues that he’s dealing with.  He really does not feel well at all.  He is very weak and tired.  His hemoglobin was essentially the same this morning as yesterday.  Yesterday was 7.2 and today 7.1.  He is taking iron supplements.  He still has a very poor appetite, although he has tried to make himself eat more today.  His body is still retaining lots of fluid and he is taking a diuretic to try to help with that.  The seroma in his groin area is still about the same size, but it has gotten a bit softer which is a sign that the fluid is being reabsorbed by the body.  It continues to be swollen and painful.  He did not sleep well last night.  One of the reasons that he didn’t sleep well was that his arm where the arterial line had been was really bothering him.  This evening, we noticed that there is some redness and warmth along the path where the line was, which could be an indication of infection.  We have been putting warm compresses on the area and will continue to  monitor it.  He has also had several episodes where he feels like his heart is really “pounding”.  He says it’s not really an irregular beat, and his pulse is not rapid, it just doesn’t feel “right”.

We are hoping that he gets a good night of rest tonight and we will re-evaluate these things in the morning.  If they have not improved, we may see about going to the clinic to have him checked out.  He was toying with the idea of trying to fly home tomorrow evening, but at this point that doesn’t look likely.  We know that he will be much more comfortable recovering at home, but we need to be sure everything is good for making the trip home.

Please pray for the following things:

1. That Greg would sleep well tonight.

2. That there would be no infection in his arm.

3. That his hemoglobin would increase.

4. That is appetite would improve.

5. That his body would rid itself of the extra fluid.

6. That the seroma in his groin area would resolve quickly.

7. That he would have no more “episodes” with his heart.

8. That he would be feeling stronger in the morning.

Thank you for praying for these specific requests.  We know that God is able to do immeasurably more than we could even ask or imagine!

Trusting His Plan,

Greg, Sandra, Katie, Emilie and Jacob

I look several times a day for your updates. Thanks for including me in a small way in your journey. I am praying for Greg, you and the kids. Authentic faith, so rare in this world today, but it so beautiful when it is seen and lived out. Your family is such an awesome example to so many.
