A Whirlwind Of A Day!

Today has  been a really rough day.  Originally Greg was scheduled to have surgery to remove the tumor in his right thigh this coming Friday.  Then he was to be readmitted to the hospital next Tuesday to begin the first round of biochemotherapy.  Our plan was to take an evening flight today (Wednesday) so that we would be here in time for early Thursday morning appointments, followed by the surgery on Friday.

Greg has been feeling really poorly for the past 4-5 days….poor appetite, nausea, extreme fatigue and on/off fever.  He continued to worsen and this morning we decided to take an earlier flight to get out here to have him seen by his oncologist.  Packing, getting ready to go, and getting through the airport was very difficult on Greg.  Fortunately, we made the 1:40 flight and I got a wheelchair for him when we landed in Houston.  We came straight to MD Anderson.  He had blood drawn and a chest x-ray done, then we went up to see the doctor.  His fever was up to 101 at this point, and he felt awful.

We had thought that maybe his hemoglobin had dropped and that he might need a transfusion, but his hemoglobin was good.  His chest x-ray was also clear.  The doctor decided to admit him to the hospital to run some tests to try to determine the cause of the fever.  He said it could be an infection somewhere, or it could be what he called a “tumor fever”, which happens when the tumors are growing.

It’s 10pm here (11 at home) and Greg is finally resting a bit. We really need for the fever to go away!  They probably won’t do the surgery on Friday if he is still running a fever.  We don’t want to put that off, if we can help it.  We also don’t want to start the biochemo, without first doing the surgery.  We really want to be able to harvest the cells for the TIL treatment.

Please pray for the following:

1. For us to handle our present circumstances in a way that would please the Lord and point others to Him

2. For Greg to get some good rest tonight (me too!)

3. For the fever to break and not return

4. For them to find out what’s going on in Greg’s body and be able to correct it quickly

5. For the surgery to go on as planned on Friday

Thank you all for praying for us.  It’s been a really long, hard day for Greg.

Trusting His Plan,

Praying for you all. May God grant you both a good night’s rest and a fever-free one, too.

Lord be ever so close to Greg and Sandra this night. Please break the fever and give him rest. And guide the drs to find the source of the problem and be able to quickly treat it so surgery can occur. Leaving them in Your capable hands, Lord. Amen.
