Encouragement From God’s Word

Greg had a bad night last night.  He felt really bad after he came back from the CT scan and it continued throughout the night.  He slept on and off, but 3am – 4am seems to be a busy hour around here.  They come in to do vital signs, draw blood and, of all things, to weigh him.  Not sure why he has to be weighed at 3am???  His temperature continues to be up and down and he still has a headache and body aches.

His appetite is still poor.  So, yesterday he ate some lunch, then nothing else for the rest of the day.  This morning he decided to make himself eat a little something, so he ate a few grapes and a bit of granola.  Almost immediately after eating, a nurse comes in and says, “Have you had anything to eat or drink since midnight?  They want to do an echocardiogram and you aren’t supposed to have anything to eat for four hours prior.”  Pretty ironic, huh?!  Since it was very little that he had eaten, they decided it would be okay to go ahead and do the test, so he is gone now for that.

We talked to the nurse for a few minutes this morning.  She said that the cultures should be back tonight, but at this point they don’t think it’s an infection.  So, maybe it’s “tumor fever”?  We still don’t know.  Hopefully, this evening they will have the results of all the tests and can make a more definitive diagnosis and plan of treatment.  The nurse did say that if the fever is not caused by infection, they should be able to go ahead and do the surgery, even if the fever persists.

Hard not to get a little discouraged.  I know that Greg is getting tired of not feeling well and just wants some relief.  I feel so helpless to do anything to make it better for him and we both are ready for some answers.  So while he’s gone, I opened God’s Word and asked Him to speak to me and encourage me.  This is what I read:  Psalm 77

I cried out to God for help;     I cried out to God to hear me. 2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;     at night I stretched out untiring hands,     and I would not be comforted.

3 I remembered you, God, and I groaned;     I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.[b] 4 You kept my eyes from closing;     I was too troubled to speak. 5 I thought about the former days,     the years of long ago; 6 I remembered my songs in the night.     My heart meditated and my spirit asked:

7 “Will the Lord reject forever?     Will he never show his favor again? 8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever?     Has his promise failed for all time? 9 Has God forgotten to be merciful?     Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”

10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:     the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. 11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;     yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will consider all your works     and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

13 Your ways, God, are holy.     What god is as great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles;     you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,     the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

16 The waters saw you, God,     the waters saw you and writhed;     the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water,     the heavens resounded with thunder;     your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,     your lightning lit up the world;     the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea,     your way through the mighty waters,     though your footprints were not seen.

20 You led your people like a flock     by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Once again, I am encouraged by God’s Word.  I remember Who He is and what He has done for me in the past.  I pray that I will hear His “thunder in this whirlwind.”  I will continue to trust in His goodness!

Andddd……..while I’m typing this post, Emilie texts me, “I think I might have pink eye”!!!!

Yes Lord, I will trust in your goodness!!!

While I was reading the Psalm you inserted, I so totally felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. Praying these words of faith in your behalf, my friend.

From 1 Thessalonians: 4 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.

His Gospel is alive in you and your family, Sandra. It’s bringing you power and conviction — continue to lift up His name in praise. He will continue to be your comforter, encourager, strength, resting place, Mighty God.
