A Bit Of Good News

Good morning everyone!  We got a bit of good news this morning.  The doctor said that Greg’s heart test came back with good results.  I guess since the recent heart surgery, it was a little difficult to view all angles of the heart with the first test that was done.  The test yesterday showed that the heart is functioning well and that the blood flow is good!  He also showed us a graph of Greg’s LDH.  This is one of the markers in the blood that indicated that the disease could be progressing at a rapid rate.  At the beginning of May, this number was around 600.  When we arrived here last Wednesday, the number had gone up to about 4,000.  It was over 5,000 at its highest point on Monday.  Since then, the number has steadily been going back down.  Today it was around 2,000.  This is good news!  The doctor said that usually when the disease is very active, it responds better to the biochemo.  We are praying that this is the case!

The bio portion of treatment will begin today….not sure of the time.  He will receive two drugs….interferon and interleukin-2.  Please continue to pray that Greg would be an exception to the norm and side effects would be minimal for him.  This treatment will be for 5 days, as long as his body can tolerate it.  He has already begun to retain a little fluid.  They say he could gain up to 20 lbs in fluid over the next few days!

For now, he is up and about.  He did some walking around the unit this morning and then ate a little breakfast…he’s still having some nausea.  He’s been on the computer trying to get a little work done.  I’m hoping that the new drugs won’t start until after lunch, so that maybe he will feel like eating one more meal, before it all gets started.

Thanks for keeping us in your prayers!

“We are only on this earth for a short time.  This is all temporary.  It doesn’t minimize the struggle or make the pain go away, it just changes our perspective.  We can endure the hardship because we know we are just ‘visiting’.  Lord, give us the grace to be faithful in this hardship.”  ~Louie Giglio
