Just Like They Said

Well, it’s just like they told us it would be.  Greg has started feeling better this week…..just in time to go back and do this thing all over again!  This has been a pretty good week for Greg.  Although he is still pretty tired, he has been more back to normal.  All of his lab tests have been good, except his hemoglobin has stayed low.  We are so very thankful that his numbers were good and we didn’t have to seek treatment for any of them.  I’m sure a lot of his fatigue can be attributed to his low hemoglobin.  His appetite is coming back.  He still has only certain things that sound good to him, but he tries to eat whether it “sounds” good or not.  This week, his foods of choice have been watermelon, peaches, beef, tacos and lemonade!  He went in to the office two days this week and worked from home the other days.  He’s also done some yard work, walked in the neighborhood, rode bikes and played Airsoft with Jake.  He is sleeping better, but still has some night sweats.

We met with our local oncologist yesterday.  We have only seen him twice before, back in October of 2011, when Greg was first diagnosed.  At that point, he referred Greg to Emory, and from there we ended up at MD Anderson.  We decided that it would be a good idea to keep in contact with this local doctor so that if the need for something came up in between trips to Houston, there would be someone here that is familiar with Greg’s case.  It was a good visit and we are very comfortable with having this doctor on our team.

So, now that Greg is beginning to feel a bit better, it’s time to go back to MD Anderson for round two of the biochemo.  We plan to leave here on Monday evening for a Tuesday admission.  We are praying that Greg will be able to do this round in the normal fashion….chemo and bio at the same time…as opposed to doing them separately, like last time.  We are also praying that his body will be able to tolerate the full treatment.  If all goes as planned, it should be 5 days of treatment and 2 days of recovery, then back home.

Please keep our friends, the Johnston’s in your prayers this weekend.  The funeral for Stanton is tomorrow and the visitation is this evening.  Stanton is the father of Katie’s best friend, Morgan.  Pray for Stanton’s wife Stacy and their girls, Morgan and Hannah.  Also, please pray for Katie.  She is really upset that she can’t get off work today to be with Morgan at the visitation.  She will be driving home early tomorrow morning so that she can be at the funeral.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers, support, encouragement and provision for us during this time that we have been home between treatments.  We are so very blessed with wonderful family and friends!!

These are our current prayer requests:

1. That our family will handle our present circumstances in a way that pleases the Lord and points others to Him.

2. For the Johnston family as they go through such a difficult time this weekend and the days that follow.

3. For safety for Katie as she travels home and back for the funeral.

4. For Greg to continue to have good days leading up to this next admission.

5. For Greg’s body to respond to this treatment and for his body to be COMPLETELY healed of all cancer.

Blessed be the Lord who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.  Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.  Awesome is God from His sanctuary; the God of Israel – He is the One who gives power and strength to His people.  Blessed be God!  Psalm 68:19-20, 35

Trusting His Plan,

Greg, Sandra, Katie, Emilie and Jacob
