Biochemo: Round 2, Day 1

We finally got into a room about 7:00 last night. We ate some dinner while we were waiting for them to get things set up for the PICC line insertion. By the time the PICC line was in, the chest x-ray was done to check for placement, and the pre-meds were done, it was midnight before Day 1 of the chemo had started. We both slept pretty good in between all of the interruptions…medications, vital signs, weight, etc. Around 4 am, Greg received the first Interferon shot and about 9 am he began to have severe chills. He got a shot of Demerol and that took care of the chills. He’s also experienced a bit of nausea and poor appetite. So far, he hasn’t eaten anything today. He did order some lunch, but he was asleep when it got here and he’s still sleeping. He’s been having some low back pain and a headache and took some pain medicine a bit ago. We made several laps around the unit and he sat up in the chair for a while, then went back to sleep and has been asleep ever since. Also, his heart rate has been elevated and they are keeping an eye on that. Greg is really losing his hair quickly, and it may all be gone before we finish this round….I need to take a before and after picture!

These are our current prayer requests:

1. That our family would handle our current circumstances in a way that pleases the Lord and points others to Him.
2. That Greg’s pain, especially in his back, would go away.
3. That the side effects of the treatment would be minimal.
4. That Greg would be able to complete the entire round without complication.
5. That Greg’s heart rate would return and stay within normal limits.
6. That the Lord would use this treatment to completely heal Greg’s body of ALL cancer.
7. That the Lord would give us wisdom in making the decision re: adding the new drug to his regimen next time.
8. That the kids would stay healthy and safe while we are gone.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and encouragement!

Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to You! Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline Your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call! Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord: that He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die. Psalm 102:1-2, 18-20

Trusting His Plan,
Greg, Sandra, Katie, Emilie and Jacob
