Spectacular!!!

That is the word that we heard from our doctor today!! The doctor had another doctor with him from Brazil. He said, “I told this doctor…you want to see something spectacular, you come in this room with me!” He was extremely happy with Greg’s scans. They show much improvement in the bones….still showing some areas of concern, but still could be healing, rather than disease. The other organs that had tumors before are clear….lungs, liver, adrenal glands! The tumor in his thigh remains, but is smaller. There is also a new area on his ankle, but we think it may be due to the oral chemo, and not a new tumor. The previous tumor showing on his brain is no longer seen, but there is a new area of concern in a different place on the brain. The report states that it is inconclusive and may just be an “artifact”. So….in the words of our doctor….SPECTACULAR!!! We are thrilled, and so very grateful to the Lord for His kindness, grace and favor on us. We are fully aware that EVERY good gift comes from Him, and we are humbled by His goodness.

After discussion of the scans and bloodwork, the doctor has decided that Greg has probably reached the maximum benefit of the biochemotherapy. He doesn’t feel that rounds 5 and 6 would provide more benefit, but the side effects would be harsher with each round. So the new plan is for Greg to begin a new drug, Ipilimumab. This is not a chemotherapy drug, but rather an immunological drug. It can have some harsh side effects, but it seems as if more people do NOT have the side effects than those that do have them. We are praying that Greg is one of the ones that does not experience them! The drug is given as an IV infusion over a 90 minute period. After the infusion, he will be observed for 30 minutes then he will be free to go. He is receiving his first infusion as I type. That means we can go home TOMORROW!!!

Greg will get one of these infusions every three weeks for a total of four weeks. He will also continue on the oral chemo (dabrafenib) on a daily basis. In three to four weeks, he will have another MRI of his brain to recheck that new place that showed up this time. Praying it will be GONE, just like the last one!

Getting his first dose of Ipi

Getting his first dose of Ipi

Ipi.....hopefully the drug that gets Greg to NED (no evidence of disease)!

Ipi…..hopefully the drug that gets Greg to NED (no evidence of disease)!

Thank you all SO very much for praying for us……He has heard and He has answered!!

“In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached his ears.” Ps. 18:6

Trusting His Plan,
Greg, Sandra, Katie, Emilie and Jacob

Thank you, Jesus! Yes, the imaging is now so sensitive, showing artifacts, it has left me wondering for six months if I had cancer also. We place our faith in the One who heals! Our whole family rejoyces with you.
